Lori Nelson is originally from Birmingham, Alabama, and had her first horse in elementary school. From her home base now south of Atlanta, she began FEI level endurance competition in 2011. Her daughter Sydney Sumrall enjoyed competing and learning through the FEI Young Riders program before leaving the sport for college. She and her daughter competed together, and their family has brought at least eight horses through the ranks of FEI competition. Lori has supported a number of other Young Riders from the United States and abroad, loaning horses regularly to enable these riders to qualify for championships or secure their elite status. Lori has participated as crew for the US Team numerous times at the North American Junior and Young Riders Championships. In 2013 her mare DCL Mooi Penny won Individual Bronze Medal and helped secure theTeam Gold Medal for the USA Southeast Endurance Team at the NAJYRC. In 2015 Lori had the privilege of participating as a crew member for the United States Team at the Young Riders World Endurance Championship in Santo Domino, Chile. She has also crewed and volunteered at several US Team trials. Lori will be competing on her three horses, Roccoby Baby, DCL Mooi Penny, and CD Night Rider.
